18 years of co-operative development. CAN comes of age!

Co-operative Assistance Network Limited, known to most of its customers as CAN, has come of age. On 19 December 2007 CAN celebrated the 18th anniversary of its incorporation as a worker co-operative.

Set up by a group of co-operative development workers, one of whom is still a member, CAN provides training, consultancy and development services to the co-operative movement. We have worked with many Co-operative Development Bodies, providing case workers, training and even support to co-operative development workers. Increasingly we are working directly for co-operatives on issues as diverse as Human Resource system development, Marketing, Finance Acquisition and Business Expansion planning.

In 18 years we have assisted the registration of more than 100 co-operatives, and 18 years of running as a Worker Co-operative and Co-operative Development Body has given us direct experience of the issues that co-ops face, and how to apply solutions that work.

From an initial base in Essex, we actively cover the South East, South West and East of England, London, and have recently started working in the North West as a result of a worker relocating. We also work outside of these areas where our training meets a co-op's needs or there is no existing Co-operative Development Body or the local CDB lacks the specialism.

Here's to another 18 years!
